What the market looks like
Executive-level AI strategy roles in Canada remain selective—we've tracked 5 such postings in the last six months, concentrated in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. The strongest Fractional Chief AI Officer candidates bring a mix of hands-on AI/ML fluency and board-level strategic vision: they've shipped AI products or built ML teams, articulate trade-offs between adoption speed and risk, and can translate technical opportunity into business outcomes. Compensation for fractional advisory roles in this cohort typically ranges from $250–$400/hour, depending on scope and engagement depth. Financial services, technology, and professional services organizations lead hiring in this space.
