Typical job responsibilities

  • Own the enterprise data strategy — define architecture, governance frameworks, and roadmaps that align data initiatives with business objectives

  • Build and scale the data organization — recruit, mentor, and develop teams spanning data engineers, analysts, scientists, and data stewards

  • Drive data infrastructure modernization — evaluate, select, and oversee implementation of platforms, warehouses, and tools that enable analytics at scale

  • Partner with business leaders to identify high-impact data use cases — quantify ROI and shepherd projects from conception through production

  • Establish data governance, quality standards, and compliance frameworks — balance accessibility with security and regulatory requirements

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives — integrate data insights into product, marketing, finance, and operations decision-making

  • Manage budget and vendor relationships — optimize technology spend and negotiate contracts for tools, cloud infrastructure, and external expertise

Typical candidate requirements

  • 12+ years in data engineering, analytics, or data science — with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role managing teams and strategy

  • Proven track record building data platforms and infrastructure from concept to production at scale

  • Strong technical depth — hands-on knowledge of data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), and modern analytics stacks

  • Experience defining and executing data governance, quality assurance, and compliance programs in regulated environments

  • Ability to translate business problems into data solutions and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing data teams
