What the market looks like

AI-first Chief Product Officer roles have emerged as a distinct flavor of CPO mandate — typically at Series B through pre-IPO technology companies where the product category itself is being reshaped by generative AI. Almost all the postings we see are concentrated in the Bay Area, New York, Boston, and Seattle. These are not traditional CPO roles and require distinct instincts: pricing, packaging, and delivery models all shift when AI is at the core. Compensation is packaged on a confidential total-comp basis with significant equity upside.

Job responsibilities

  • Own the full product agenda in a company where generative and agentic AI reshape every surface

  • Lead the product leadership team across core product, platform, and AI-native bets

  • Partner closely with engineering, design, and research leadership on execution and velocity

  • Drive decisions on pricing, packaging, and go-to-market for AI-enabled products

  • Represent the company externally with customers, partners, press, and investors

  • Own portfolio-level decisions across roadmap, talent, and investment

  • Build the product operating model that lets the company move at AI-native pace

  • Make the founder-style calls about what the company is and isn't

Candidate requirements

  • 15+ years of product leadership experience, with at least 5 years at VP or CPO level

  • Track record of shipping and scaling AI-enabled products — not just traditional SaaS

  • Proven ability to build and develop senior product leaders

  • Deep customer and market instincts combined with technical literacy

  • Comfort operating at CEO and board level

  • Strong external communication — investor, press, and customer
